What is the IPL MVP Award?

The IPL MVP award, initially called the "Player of the Tournament" from 2008 to 2012, recognizes the most impactful player throughout the season. While individual brilliance in batting and bowling is essential, the MVP selection goes beyond just runs or wickets. Some key factors are overall contributions in a match, impact on a team's performances, and leadership qualities on and off the field.

IPL MVP Award Selection Criteria

The IPL governing body uses a points system to determine the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the entire season. According to this system:

- Every four hits (fours) equals 2.5 points.
- Every six hit and every wicket taken is worth 3.5 points each.
- Each dot ball bowled earns 1 point.
- Each catch taken and each stumping performed is worth 2.5 points each.

In 2024, Sunil Narine from Kolkata won the IPL MVP Award, accumulating a total of 450 points. His impressive contributions included hitting 50 fours and 33 sixes, taking 17 wickets, and making 8 catches over the course of 16 matches.
