In match 11 of the Indian T20 League 2021, last season’s runners-up Delhi take on 2014 runners-up Punjab at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday evening.

Delhi lost to Rajasthan in their last game by 3 wickets, whereas Punjab suffered a huge defeat against Chennai by 6 wickets. Both teams have 2 points from two games and are currently placed 4th and 7th in the points table respectively.

A poor batting display for Delhi saw them with just 147 runs on the board, which ultimately proved to be short as Rajasthan clinched a final-over victory. The top order of Dhawan, Shaw and Rahane failed to get going, scoring only 19 runs between them. Skipper Pant’s half century and few other cameos ensured that the team reached a respectable score. The pace trio of Rabada, Woakes and A Khan did all the damage in the game, taking all the 7 wickets to fall. A Nortje has completed his quarantine and is expected to replace T Curran in this match.

After the highs of the first game, Punjab could only score 106 in the second game against Chennai, resulting in a heavy one-sided defeat. They found themselves at 26/5 as their top five batsmen all struggled against the new ball. It was only because of S Khan that they could cross the 100-run mark. M Shami has been impressive with the ball and a lot will depend upon him here. M Henriques and D Malan may get a chance in the playing XI in place of N Pooran and R Meredith.

With both the sides looking to return to winning ways, expect a cracking end to the first doubleheader Sunday in Mumbai.

Weather and Pitch Report

Mumbai is expected to have clear weather during the match. The temperature will be around 30 degrees during the game.

In the previous two games, the pitch at the Wankhede Stadium has favored the bowlers. There is early swing available off the surface, which makes the initial overs critical. Batsmen will need to bide their time in the middle before playing the attacking shots. Spinners will not get much turn off the surface and have to rely on their variations to do well here.

Keeping in mind the dew factor, both captains will look to chase on winning the toss. The results of the last five matches also favor the side batting second. A first-innings score of around 190 runs should be a competitive one.

Top Fantasy Picks

  • S Dhawan is the top run scorer for Delhi, with 94 runs in two games at a strike rate of 144.61. He has scored 3 half centuries in his last five innings. He will look to bounce back after a disappointing game with the bat against Rajasthan.
  • R Pant scored a terrific half century, scoring 51 runs off 32 balls to give the team a fighting chance in the previous match. He has been in great form and will look to make a healthy contribution with the bat once again here.
  • A Khan has been a surprise package so far in the tournament. He has picked up 5 wickets in two matches at an average of 11 and an economy rate of 6.87. He has been pacy and accurate and is a genuine wicket taker in this format of the game.
  • KL Rahul was run out by Jadeja’s brilliance in the last match, having scored just 5 runs. He played a brilliant knock in the first match (91 runs off 50 balls) and will look to put up a similar performance here. Moreover, he has a great record batting at Wankhede.
  • C Gayle is yet to come to his best form in the tournament. He scored a quick-fire 40 in the first match but got out for just 10 in the second game. He has the potential to pile up big runs if he gets going.
  • M Shami has been a star with the ball for Punjab, taking 4 wickets in two matches at an average of 13.5 and an economy rate of 6.75. He is accurate with the new ball and can provide his team breakthroughs in the middle overs too.
