Match: England vs. Ireland, 1st ODI
Venue: The Rose Bowl, Southampton
Date and time: July 30, 2020, at 6.30 PM IST
Preview: The series between England and Ireland marks the beginning of the recently announced ODI Super League. This means that it will be all the more important for Ireland to gain points as it can ensure qualification for the ODI World Cup 2023. For England, it will be an opportunity to try out some new players in the absence of their ODI regulars who have not been included in the squad owing to their recent Test series with the West Indies. England impressed with a resounding comeback, winning the 3 Test series against the West Indies 2-1. The English youngsters will be eager to impress the selection board and cement their place in the regular ODI squad.
Pitch and Weather Conditions: The weather forecast states that Southampton will be nice and sunny on Thursday with minimal chances (10%) of rain. The minimum and the maximum temperature are expected to be 18 and 25 degrees Celsius respectively. The Rose Bowl generally produces good batting wickets for white-ball cricket and it shouldn’t be any different on Thursday. The pitch is likely to offer even bounce and minimal seam movement. If there is no cloud cover, there will be negligible movement in the air as well. The encounter could turn out to be a high scoring game and the captain winning the toss will probably like to field first.
