Match: England vs. Ireland, 2nd ODI
Venue: The Rose Bowl, Southampton
Date and time: August 1, 2020, at 6.30 PM IST
Preview: D Willey and S Billings returned to the International arena and had an excellent Thursday evening in Southampton that brought up the victory for the England side in the series starter. Now, both Ireland and England are up against each other for the 2nd ODI in a gap of just one day, at the same venue. From the Irish point of view, there wasn’t any watch-out performance other than debut C Campher’s maiden fifty. They had an excellent 1st half with the ball, where they reduced England 78/4 at one point, but missed a trick to stop the English middle-order.
Pitch and Weather Conditions: After a bright and sunny day in Southampton on Thursday, there is a chance of a shower or two on Saturday with a 25% precipitation. The minimum and the maximum temperature are expected to be 12 and 23 degrees Celsius respectively. The Ageas Bowl track in the first ODI was slow but still decent for batting, despite the scores not really depicting that. The new-ball bowlers, particularly Willey, found swing and subtle movement, which could be on show again. Importantly, the same track will be used for the second ODI, so if the top orders can get through the initial burst, runs will be on offer.
