Match: England vs. West Indies, 2nd Test
Venue: Old Trafford, Manchester, England
Date and time: July 16, 2020, at 3.30 PM IST
Preview: The West Indies made a fine start to the series with a 4-wicket win over the hosts in the first test match played in Southampton, England. The J Holder-led West Indies team looked focused and will be looking to wrap up the series in the second Test starting on 16th July. England’s star batsman J Root, who missed the 1st Test due to the birth of his second child, will be returning to the team. Coach C Silverwood is backing under-fire wicketkeeper J Butler to perform and he looks likely to make the team. S Broad will probably replace M Wood in the England team in hopes of strengthening the bowling attack.
Pitch and Weather Conditions: Rains marred the 1st two days of the Test match played in Southampton but better conditions are predicted in the second Test match, which is to be played in Manchester. The first day will be a bit cloudy but players will get good sunshine over the next 4 days. The ball didn’t swing a lot in Southampton. It did seam off the deck right through the game and it bounced from a length as well. While that did put the batsmen in discomfort at times, not much conventional swing was on offer. The pitch at Old Trafford might offer a little bit more for the fast bowlers than the one at the Rose Bowl did, and England might think about bringing S Broad back into the playing eleven. Broad might not be as quick as some of the other England fast bowlers, but he is still skillful enough to make use of favorable pitches.
