THE TEAM OF WEEK TWO OF THE INDIAN T20 LEAGUE 2020
The second week of the Indian T20 league has ended with Chennai winning against Punjab on 4th October. Let’s look at the tournament’s best XI from week two.
Note: The XI follows the ‘maximum of four overseas players’ rule
Wicketkeeper
L Rahul (Team Punjab)
3 matches, 149 runs, strike rate 119.2
Although Punjab lost all the three matches they played in the last week, L Rahul has been very consistent with the bat. His 69 in the first match against Rajasthan was followed by just 17 against a strong Mumbai bowling unit. Then, he scored his second fifty in three matches with 63 against Chennai. He is currently the Orange Cap holder for this season.
Batsmen
I Kishan (Team Mumbai)
3 matches, 158 runs, strike rate 139.82
I Kishan did not play the first two matches of Mumbai. He replaced S Tiwary in the third match and made an immediate impact in the match. He scored an outstanding 99 against Bangalore. His 28 in the second match against Punjab was followed by a useful 31 in the third match against Hyderabad. He is the 3rd batsman to get dismissed for 99 in the Indian T20 League history.
M Agarwal (Team Punjab)
3 matches, 157 runs, strike rate 180.45
M Agarwal has continued from where he left off in the first week by scoring the second century of the Indian T20 league 2020. He scored a brilliant 106 against Rajasthan but in a losing cause. In the second match, he scored 25 runs against Mumbai and scored 26 runs in the third match against Chennai. He is currently third in the Orange Cap holder list.
D Padikkal (Team Bangalore)
2 matches, 117 runs, strike rate 137.64
With his third fifty in four matches, D Padikkal has emerged as the contender for the Emerging Player of the Year Award. His runs at the top of the order resulted in wins in both the games played this week. He scored 54 runs against Mumbai, which was followed by a solid 63 against Rajasthan. Currently, he sits sixth in the Orange Cap list of the season.
F Du Plessis (Team Chennai)
2 matches, 109 runs, strike rate 151.38
F Du Plessis has continued his run-scoring at the top of the order for Chennai. He scored 22 runs against Hyderabad and followed it up with an unbeaten 87* against Punjab and gave Chennai a much-needed and thumping victory by ten wickets. He is currently just behind the Orange Cap holder in scoring most runs.
S Iyer (Team Delhi)
2 matches, 105 runs, strike rate 177.96
S Iyer, captain of the Delhi team, had decent scores in the first week but could not capitalize on that. Batting at number three, he scored 17 runs against Hyderabad and followed that up by a scintillating 88* runs from just 38 balls against Kolkata in the second match. The fortunes of the team depend on the form of S Iyer as a batsman.
All-Rounders
K Pollard (Team Mumbai)
3 matches, 132 runs, strike rate 231.57; 0 wickets, economy 8.25
K Pollard is not out in the three innings he played this week, indicating the job well done in the finishing role the team has given him. He started with a 24-ball 60* in Mumbai’s thrilling super over loss against Bangalore. He followed that up with a 20-ball 47* against Punjab which put the total beyond Punjab’s reach. In the third match, he scored 25* and bowled three cheap overs for just 20 runs. With K Pollard in such form, Mumbai looks a strong contender for the title.
Bowlers
T Boult (Team Mumbai)
3 matches, 5 wickets, economy 8.67
Boult has five wickets in the three matches played by Mumbai in the last week. Two against Bangalore followed by 1 for 42 against Punjab. In the third match, he bowled superbly to pick up 2 wickets for just 28 runs against Hyderabad on a small venue. He bowled the super over against Punjab and gave away only 2 runs. His economy is brilliant, 6.75 runs per over. He is currently third in the Purple Cap holder list for the season.
R Khan (Team Hyderabad)
3 matches, 4 wickets, economy: 4
With four wickets at an economy rate of only 4, Rashid has been the best bowler in the second week. He bowled brilliantly against Delhi picking up 3 for 14 and bowled 4 overs for 12 runs against Chennai. Then, he took 1 for 22 against Mumbai. A prime reason for Hyderabad winning two matches in the week.
Y Chahal (Team Bangalore)
2 matches, 4 wickets, economy 9
Chahal’s role will be important as the tournament progresses into the second half. He picked up 1 wicket for just 48 runs against Mumbai. He was his best against Rajasthan picking up 3 wickets for just 24 runs. He got the man of the match award for the same.
M Shami (Team Punjab)
3 matches, 4 wickets, economy: 10.33
With four wickets at a little high economy of 10.33, Shami has been the best Indian bowler in the tournament for the second week running. He picked up 3 for 53 against Rajasthan and took 1 for 36 against Mumbai. He went wicketless in the third match against Chennai. He is currently fourth on the Purple Cap holder list for this season.
