Afghanistan Cricket Team: Match Schedule, Players, Titles, Stats

The Afghanistan men's national cricket team is a Full Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) with Test, One-Day International (ODI), and Twenty20 International (T20I) status. It is the first country to ever achieve Full Member status after holding Affiliate Membership of the ICC.

Six years after the Afghanistan Cricket Federation was formed, ICC granted the Afghanistan cricket team an affiliate membership in 2001. Two years later, the country became a member of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

The Afghanistan national cricket team gained recognition after performances in the World Cricket League. They played in the 2009 World Cup Qualifier and progressed to participate in the 2010 World Twenty20. In 2011, the Afghanistan team gained ODI status for the next four years.

Afghanistan didn't look back since then as their growth in international cricket has been extraordinary. They surprised one and many in the 2016 T20 World Cup when they beat the West Indies. The next year they were awarded Test status along with Ireland. They booked their place in the 2019 World Cup by winning the 2018 World Cup Qualifier. Rashid Khan, the spin superstar, has been pivotal in their growth and success.

After one year of receiving Test status, they played their first-ever Test against India in 2018. In 2019, hosting Ireland in a one-off Test in Dehradun, the team registered its first Test win and became the joint second-fastest to a maiden Test match win, alongside Pakistan and England.
