The Pataudi Trophy: Symbol of India & England Test Glory
The Pataudi Trophy is awarded to the winner of the Test series between India and England played on English soil. Introduced in 2007 to mark 75 years since the two teams first faced off in a Test match, the trophy represents one of the most respected rivalries in international cricket.
Named in honor of the legendary Pataudi family, the trophy reflects a rich cricketing legacy. Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi is uniquely remembered for representing both England and India during his career. His son, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, became one of India’s most iconic captains, leading the team through much of the 1960s and 70s.
Before the trophy was introduced, India had toured England 14 times, winning only 2 series, while England won 11, and 1 series was drawn. The Pataudi Trophy added more prestige to the contest, and since 2007, both teams have battled fiercely for it.
If a series ends in a draw, the team already holding the trophy retains it—adding even more value to each victory.
