Indian T20 League Delhi Squad 2021

The Delhi Team retained 19 players and released six players before the 2021 season of the Indian T20 League. They have bought eight players in the 2021 Auction.

Delhi Team Top Players

Below are the players in different categories that can be crucial to the team's chances in the 2021 season of the Indian T20 League.

    • Rishabh Pant A once-in-a-generation talent with more than 2000 Indian T20 League runs to his name, Pant enjoyed his best season in 2018, when his 684 runs came at an incredible strike rate of 173.6. After a fairly disappointing 2020 season, he has shown signs of getting back to his best this year. So far, he has scored 213 runs at a strike-rate of 131.48 and a highest score of 58* (48 balls), which came against Bangalore. He has a big part to play if Delhi are to end their title jinx. Top Batters

    • Shikhar Dhawan Dhawan’s tally of 5577 runs is second only to Virat Kohli in the history of the Indian T20 League. Yet for the longest time, there was a feeling that Dhawan scored his runs too slowly. It was only in his final year with Hyderabad (2018) that his season’s strike rate went over 130. He maintained that in 2019, and in 2020 had his best-ever season, making 618 runs at a strike rate of 144.73. That aggregate could be in danger this season, as he already has 380 runs to his name. • Prithvi Shaw Occasional bursts of class aside, he was nowhere near consistent enough in his first three seasons to be considered a top player. That has changed in 2021, with 308 runs at a strike-rate of 166 and two Man of the Match awards. He could use his disappointment at being left out of India’s T20 World Cup squad to pile on even more runs. Read more..
    • Steve Smith For someone with spectacular career numbers in Tests and ODIs, Smith’s Indian T20 League record is fairly modest. His best season in terms of runs was 2017 (472), while he scored the fastest the previous season. But with a World Cup on the horizon and having been cut loose by Rajasthan, Smith has a point or two to prove. He’s quite adept against spin and more than capable of innovative stroke play. However, with the openers so dominant, he hasn’t had much of a chance to shine yet this season. Read more..

    • Marcus Stoinis He moved to Delhi before the 2020 season, and repaid at least part of his ₹4.8 crore fee by belting 352 runs and taking 13 wickets. He has yet to make a similar impact this season, and Delhi will certainly want him to bring down his economy rate of 10.90. He remains more than capable of sixer-filled cameos at the death. Top Bowlers

    • Kagiso Rabada He was central to Delhi making the play-offs in 2019 with 25 wickets and did even better last season, taking 30 wickets as Delhi narrowly lost in the final. He hasn’t hit those lofty heights yet, but a spell of 3/36 against Punjab set him up well for the UAE leg, in conditions that he exploited to the hilt in 2020. Read more..
    • Avesh Khan Having played only nine matches in the previous four seasons, Avesh has eclipsed his famous teammates in the Delhi squad so far this year. His 14 wickets have come with an economy rate of 7.70, and he saved his best performance for Rajasthan – a spell of 3 for 32 in a narrow loss. His key wickets so far include Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and Faf du Plessis. Read more..
    • Ravi Ashwin Though he’s a far more complete bowler now, Ashwin’s displays over the last few seasons in the Indian T20 League haven’t matched his early exploits with Chennai. After stints with Chennai, Pune and Punjab, Ashwin joined Delhi for the 2020 season. He took 13 wickets last year and has just 1 wicket to his name this season. Nevertheless, his selection for the Indian T20 World Cup squad would have boosted his confidence and you can expect the full set of variations to be on view in the UAE. Read more..
