Gujarat Team Top Players

Below are the players in different categories that have the potential to prove themselves to be crucial for the team in their first season in the competition.

Top Batters

    • Shubman Gill It could well be that the Kolkata team lives to regret their decision to allow the young opener to leave. Gill has been one of the most consistent performers over the years and proved his mettle yet again during the UAE leg of the 2021 edition of the Indian T20 League. One has to remember the fact that Gill finished as the leading run scorer when the Indian Under-19 team won the World Cup in 2018. Gill won the Emerging Player of the Tournament award at the end of the 2019 edition of the Indian T20 League and at 22 still has years left to show his full potential. He will add experience to the Gujarat batting line-up having played more than 50 games and scoring almost 1500 runs. Gill reached the final of the tournament with Kolkata last year and will be eager to go one step further with his new team this year. Read more..
    • David Miller Miller has been associated with the Indian T20 League for 10 years now, and the 2022 edition is his 11th. He was on the Punjab Team until 2019 and joined the Rajasthan team the following year. Known for being a finisher, Miller can give his new team a cutting edge toward the end of the innings. He makes good use of his bottom hand and can swing his bat well even while sitting on his knees. He has an impressive strike rate close to 137 and is one of those to have scored a century in the tournament. The Gujarat team will be banking on Miller’s reputation of finishing the innings this year. Read more..
    • Abhinav Sadarangani The new entrants edged the Kolkata and Delhi team out to buy the 27-year-old right-handed batter in the auction and there is definitely a reason behind that. He was handed his first-class debut only in November last year but has since made a notable impact, specifically in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He was the highest run scorer there in spite of coming in at number 5. He managed to score 162 runs in 4 games at an impressive strike rate of 150. The Gujarat team will be eagerly waiting to see more from the batter. Read more..

    • Hardik Pandya For the first time in his Indian T20 League career, Pandya will not be donning the Mumbai jersey after the franchise failed to retain him. Mumbai’s loss, though, was Gujarat’s gain as the newly created side picked him up at the retention auction for ₹15 crore. Pandya comes with an impressive strike rate of 153 and has a reputation of being a finisher. In spite of recurring injuries in the last few years, Pandya has what it takes to become successful yet again. He has good bowling skills too. He can bowl as the fifth bowler, allowing the inclusion of one more batter. Read more..

    • Wriddhiman Saha Leaving all the controversies over his international future behind, Saha could use the tournament this year as a platform to silence his critics. One of the old horses, Saha has been with four franchises over the course of his career and is known to be a technically gifted wicketkeeper. He has even opened the innings on a few occasions and can be a handy batter going forward. He has a strike rate of over 128 to go with his 2110 runs. Read more..

Top Bowlers

    • Rashid Khan It was Khan’s decision to go to the auction pool rather than play for the Hyderabad team yet again. He is considered to be a specialist of the Indian T20 League and is often hard for the batters to read. His economy rate of 6.33 is one of the best in the tournament and he has picked up 93 wickets in 76 appearances. He will definitely be one foreign player to watch out for this season. Read more..
    • Mohammed Shami Since 2019, he has been one of the best bowlers in the Indian T20 League and an integral part of Team Punjab. In his first season for Punjab, he picked up 19 wickets and 20 wickets in the following season. In the 2021 season, he finished with 19 wickets again, becoming only the fourth bowler for Punjab to take 50 wickets. He was released by the Punjab team ahead of the mega auction 2022 and was bought by the Gujarat team after a fierce bidding war. Read more..
    • R Sai Kishore Uncapped left-arm spinner Sai Kishore is not new to the Indian T20 league scene having been on the Chennai team for three successive seasons but he didn’t get the chance to show his mettle there. However, this time around after being the subject of an intense bidding war between Delhi, Chennai, Punjab and Gujarat teams, Kishore will be keen to show what he is actually capable of. His 5.16 economy rate at the domestic level shows that he can be a difficult bowler to deal with. Read more..
