Indian T20 League: Mumbai Team

Led by Rohit Sharma, Mumbai is the most successful team in the league. It has won 5 titles (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020) and is the current two-times defending champion of the Indian T20 League. Mahela Jayawardene is the head coach of the team, while Robin Singh is the batting coach, and Shane Bond is the bowling coach.

Mumbai has some world-class batters like Quinton de Kock, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav. Adding to that, Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard are two of the finest all-rounders and finishers with the bat, while Jasprit Bumrah is arguably the best bowler in the T20 format.

Can Team Mumbai achieve a three-peat this season? Only time will tell. But let’s take a closer look at the team, its history and performance in the Indian T20 League since the inception of the league.

Team Mumbai Origin

The Mumbai team was founded in 2008 and plays all of its home games at the Wankhede Stadium. The team had the DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai as its home ground during the 2008 and 2010 seasons.

Team Mumbai Owners

The team is owned by Reliance Industries Ltd. and has the highest brand value among all the franchises in the Indian T20 League.

Rohit Sharma: Mumbai Team Captain

Rohit Sharma takes charge as captain of the defending champions. He has etched his name as the most successful captain in the league with 5 trophies. A prolific run-getter, The Hitman has enjoyed tremendous success with the bat. There are few who can match his striking abilities, especially in the shorter format.

Rohit Sharma has been a part of the Mumbai team since 2011. He took over the team’s captaincy from the 2013 season.

Team Mumbai: Indian T20 League 2021 Match Schedule

Mumbai will be playing seven matches in Phase 2 of the Indian T20 League 2021. They have already played against each team once and will take on them for the second time in the group stages. Three of their matches will be played in Dubai, while Abu Dhabi and Sharjah will play host to two matches each. Except one, every match of Team Mumbai will take place in the evening time (7:30 PM IST).

Mumbai Team: Players Bought in Auction 2021

In the players’ auction held before the 2021 edition of the Indian T20 League, Mumbai had fewer subtractions to its line-up. The core of the squad has remained the same as last year, and so they did not go for massive bids like some of the other teams. The team just needed to fill in a few roles and brought in a total of 7 players in the 2021 auctions.

    • Nathan Coulter-Nile: ₹ 5 crore
    • Adam Milne: ₹ 3.2 crore
    • Piyush Chawla: ₹ 2.4 crore
    • James Neesham: ₹ 50 Lakh
