Indian T20 League Punjab Squad 2021

The Punjab Team retained 16 players and released nine players before the 2021 season of the Indian T20 League. They have bought nine players in the 2021 Auction.

Punjab Team Top Players

Below are the players in different categories that can be crucial to the team's chances in the 2021 season of the Indian T20 League.

Top Batters

    • KL Rahul It was only when he moved to Punjab in 2018 that he established himself as one of the elite players in the Indian T20 League. In the three completed seasons, he has made 659, 593 and 670 runs. In the 2021 season, he is on course to match that consistency, with 331 runs already under his belt. In Match 26, he was instrumental in a 34-run thrashing of his old team Bangalore, making 91* from just 57 balls. Read more..
    • Mayank Agarwal A veteran of 11 seasons, it’s only recently that Agarwal has started doing justice to his stroke-making talent. In 2020, his tally of 424 runs included a dazzling 50-ball 106. This season, he has already managed an unbeaten 58-ball 99, against Delhi in Match 29. Read more..
    • Chris Gayle Now with his 4th team in 9 seasons, Maxwell has been one of the league’s enigmas. In 2014, while with Punjab, he made 552 runs at an incredible strike rate of 187.75. Since then, he has crossed 300 only once in a season. Franchises have paid eye-watering fees but have had little to show for it. Bangalore may have bucked that trend, with Maxwell already having made 233 runs this season. A 49-ball 78 against Kolkata was his highest score since 2014. Read more..

All-rounders

    • Deepak Hooda Having played for Rajasthan and Hyderabad earlier, Hooda may finally have found his feet in Punjab. A hard-hitting batsman also capable of stringing together some economical overs of spin, he is central to the Punjab squad. He started this season with a blistering 28-ball 64 in Match 4 against Rajasthan, and an economy rate of just over 7 with the ball. That shows why he is so valuable to the side. Read more..
    • Harpreet Brar Talked out of emigrating to Canada after his cricket dreams stalled, Brar has had to bide his time with Punjab. But in Match 26, against a powerful Bangalore side, he showcased his ability with a thrilling all-round display. After smashing a 17-ball 25, he clean-bowled Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell before having AB de Villiers caught. Read more..

Wicketkeeper

    • Nicholas Pooran Though KL Rahul and Prabhsimran Singh have donned the keeping gloves so far this season, it’s a role that Pooran can play. After 353 runs at a superb strike rate of 169.71 last season, Pooran has yet to excel in the 2021 campaign. But as he showed during a 37-ball 77 against Hyderabad last season – no teammate crossed 11 – he can destroy any bowling attack on his day. Read more..

Top Bowlers

    • Mohammed Shami Though he tends to be expensive, the pacy Shami is undoubtedly a wicket taker, with the new ball and old. In his first season with Punjab in 2019, he took 19 wickets, a tally he improved with 20 the following year. He has been more economical this season while taking 8 wickets so far, with best figures of 2/21 in an easy victory over Mumbai, the defending champions, in Match 17. Read more..
    • Chris Jordan Having played previously for Bangalore and Hyderabad, Jordan took 9 wickets for Punjab after making the switch in 2020. With great experience in leagues around the world, he is known for his variations in the final overs, especially the slower balls that are hard to pick. He can occasionally be expensive, but he is also a brilliant outfielder capable of the odd cameo with the bat. Read more..
    • Ravi Bishnoi Being coached by the legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble will undoubtedly help Bishnoi. He announced himself with 12 wickets in his debut season in 2020 and has been miserly with the ball in 2021. In addition to 2-wicket hauls in victories against Mumbai and Bangalore, he also took one of the great catches of the season to dismiss Sunil Narine in Match 21 against Kolkata. Read more..
