PNG lost its opening match of the 2024 T20 World Cup against the hosts, West Indies. Sese Bau scored 50 off 43 balls, and PNG made a decent total of 136 runs. The bowlers were economical and picked up wickets regularly to pull off an upset, but they lost in the final overs. 

Uganda were handed a record 125-run loss in their first T20 World Cup match against Afghanistan. Masaba and Kyewuta picked up 2 wickets each with the ball as Afghanistan made 183 runs. Only two batters, Riazat and Obuya, reached double figures as Uganda got all out for 55 runs.
