India’s Squad for the ODI and T20 Series Against West Indies
After a disappointing tour of South Africa where India lost both the Test and ODI series, the Men In Blue are back on home turf to take on the West Indies. Get ready for some exciting white-ball fantasy cricket.
BCCI has announced the ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming home series. Skipper Rohit Sharma has returned after recovering from his hamstring injury and is now set to lead India in both the series. Interestingly, this will be the first time Rohit and Virat Kohli will play together since the captaincy controversy.
The batting unit remains mostly the same. The only addition is that of Rohit Sharma. KL Rahul will be available from the 2nd ODI onward. Notably, there is no place for all-rounder Ventakesh Iyer, who made his debut in the South Africa series, in the ODI squad. Rajasthan's Deepak Hooda has received a maiden ODI call-up for the series.
Meanwhile, the pace attack has got a kind of new fresh look. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and off-spinner Ravi Ashwin have been rested to manage their workloads. The rest of the pace bowling attack, consisting of Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar and Prasidh Krishna, that traveled to South Africa for the ODI series has been retained. Delhi’s pacer Avesh Khan has also got his maiden call-up for both the series. Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been dropped from the ODI squad after picking up only a single wicket in the two matches played and conceding more than 60 runs on both the occasions.
Talking about the spin department, Kuldeep Yadav makes a comeback into the ODI squad. The left-arm wrist-spinner has not played any kind of competitive cricket for the last six months but is expected to provide a wicket-taking option in the middle overs. Washington Sundar has also made a comeback after missing the South Africa tour due to COVID. Ravi Bishnoi has also got his maiden call-up in the T20I series and ODI series. Axar Patel will be available only for the T20I series.

West Indies Squad Announcement
West Indies have also announced the ODI squad that will take part in the 3-match ODI series. The series between India and the West Indies will commence on 6th February 2022. The squad for the T20I series will be announced soon.
Veteran right arm pacer Kemar Roach and Nkrumah Bonner have made a return to the squad. Brandon King has also found a place in the squad. Desmond Haynes, selector of the West Indies side, said, “We are looking at this series as a preparation for the 2023 World Cup in India.”
