India’s Squad for Women World Cup 2022 Announced
BCCI has announced its 15-member squad for the 2022 Women’s World Cup and the 5-match ODI series against New Zealand. Highly-experienced Mithali Raj will take charge of India’s World Cup campaign for a third consecutive time, while Harmanpreet Kaur has been named the vice captain. Team India’s opening World Cup fixture will be against Pakistan, which will take place on 6th March, 2022, at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.
Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma are likely to open the innings for India. Mithali and Harmanpreet will make up the middle order alongside Deepti Sharma, Yastika Bhatia and Richa Ghosh. Veteran Jhulan Goswami will lead India’s bowling attack with Pooja Vastrakar, Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Poonam Yadav for support in the bowling department.
Batter Jemimah Rodrigues, all-rounder Veda Krishnamurthy and pacer Shikha Pandey are the biggest names to be left out of the World Cup squad. Batter Sabbhineni Meghana and spinners Ekta Bisht and Simran Bahadur have been named as the stand-by players for both the series.

The 5-match ODI series against New Zealand, which starts from 11th February, will act as their preparation for the high-profile event. There will also be a one-off T20, which will take place on 9th February in Napier.
