Delhi and Kolkata made the play-offs of the Indian T20 League last season. But while it was Delhi that topped the table, it was a late-surging Kolkata team that made it to the final against Chennai. Kolkata currently sit pretty atop the table with 3 wins from 4 games, while Delhi have lost 2 of their 3 matches after some patchy displays.

Apart from some superb pace bowling from U. Yadav and T. Southee, who may not even play with P. Cummins now part of the squad, Kolkata have found stars for each crisis. A. Russell’s big hitting blew Punjab away, while Cummins was even more aggressive in taking down Mumbai. Though their Indian batting component isn’t the strongest, Kolkata look to have most bases covered.

Delhi will definitely be a better side with D. Warner and A. Nortje back in the fray. Both struggled against Lucknow, but are proven performers who will undoubtedly shine with a couple of games under their belts. Delhi, and fantasy cricket fans, would also love to have M. Marsh back to full fitness as soon as possible.

This could well be another high-scoring encounter, though both sides have enough quality bowlers to stifle an innings at the start and also shut down a chase. It will also be fascinating to see which of R. Pant and S. Iyer wins the tactical battle, with both men considered as future India captains.

Weather Report

This is a mid-afternoon start, and temperatures will be hovering around 32°C at the start of play.

Pitch Report

There have been plenty of runs on the Brabourne pitches, but they’ve also given encouragement to quality spin and accurate seam bowling. K. Yadav has already taken a 3-wicket haul here for Delhi. The average first innings score in the previous 4 matches played here is 189 runs.

Toss

Given an afternoon start, the dew factor is negated in this match. Three of the four matches here saw big totals overhauled. But then Punjab put a huge score on the board and thrashed Chennai in the 4th match.

Kolkata vs Delhi Match 19 TOP FANTASY PICKS

Team Kolkata

  • A. Russell may have creaking joints that prevent him from being the bustling, attacking bowler of old, but he showed against Punjab that he only needs a couple of overs to transform a match with the bat. If he can stay fit, he’ll produce 3-4 such displays a season.
  • P. Cummins got whacked around a little in his first outing of the season, but got his revenge in the best way possible with a dazzling 15-ball 56 that had R. Sharma and Mumbai scratching their heads.
  • U. Yadav hasn’t played white-ball cricket for India in more than 3 years. But if he continues in this vein of form – 9 wickets in 4 matches at an economy rate of 5.25 – he will force himself into the T20 World Cup squad.

Team Delhi

  • P. Shaw looked as though he was batting on a different surface to his struggling teammates against Lucknow. At his best, he can make the game look that easy. But he needs to show it more consistently.
  • D. Warner looked rusty, playing his first T20 of this season for the Delhi Team. He has been scoring runs for fun in the league, expect the last season. He has a good record against Kolkata, and will be looking for a big score with the bat here.
  • K. Yadav has had a couple of lean years with the ball, losing his place in the Indian team in every form of the game. But he has started this Indian T20 League season superbly, and the confidence he gains from that could be vital in future.
