Chelsea and Wolves kick off the midweek round of Premier League when they meet at Molineux on Tuesday evening.

Wolves had an inconsistent season so far in the league and will be aiming to bounce back from a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa on the weekend. They are currently placed in 13th position with 17 points from their 12 games. A win here will put them just two points behind the visitors.

The Blues' unbeaten run of nine games in the league was halted by a 1-0 loss to Everton at Goodison Park a few days ago. Nonetheless, they are one of the best teams in the competition at the moment. They have formed a dominating trio along with Liverpool and Tottenham this season and can move back into the top spot provisionally with a win here.

In their last meeting in July this year, Chelsea beat the Wolves 2-0. Goals by M Mount and striker O Giroud ensured victory for the Blues. In the 12 head-to-head encounters, Chelsea holds a clear advantage. They have won nine games, lost just two, and drawn one.

Match Facts

Since returning to the Premier League in 2018, the Wolves have won six of their eight home midweek games in the competition, losing the other two. One of those victories was a 2-1 win over Chelsea back in December 2018.

The Wolves have lost their last two Premier League games and are looking to avoid three consecutive losses in the league for the first time since Nov. 2018. They have lost 80% of their Premier League games where R Jiménez hasn’t started (4/5).

Chelsea have failed to score in only one of their last 17 top-division meetings with the Wolves, a 0-1 loss at Molineux in Jan. 2011. They are looking to avoid back-to-back Premier League defeats for the first time since Dec. 2019.

Chelsea striker T Abraham has scored six goals in his four league appearances against Wolves, scoring a hat-trick in Chelsea’s 5-2 win in this exact fixture last season.

Match Prediction

Both sides were undone by penalties in the weekend games, and the Wolves should make this a much closer affair compared to last season's humiliation in front of their own fans. But they are significantly weak at the front after losing key striker R Jimenez to a serious injury.

Chelsea can hurt almost any team going forward - even without any natural wingers in the side. And adding the inconsistencies of the Wolves, expect the Blues to come out on top this week.
