Indian T20 League 2022 Mega Auction: 5 Big Names Who Went Unsold at the Mega Auction

The 2022 Mega Auction of the Indian T20 League finished on 13rd February. While many cricketers became millionaires and got richly paid, there were some shocking rejections too. Interestingly, it was the first time that 10 or more players were paid more than ₹10 Cr in any auction of this cash-rich T20 tournament. But on the other hand, few big names got no takers.

Let’s take a look at 5 of the biggest names who missed out on any deal at the auction.

1) Suresh Raina

Dubbed as “Chinna Thalla,” Suresh Raina has been the backbone of many of Chennai's victories in the Indian T20 League. He won matches for the team, season after season, and is the fourth-highest run scorer in the league’s history. But in the 2022 Mega Auction, he did not find any buyer and has gone without getting sold for the first time. Raina’s base price was ₹2 crore.

2) Imran Tahir

The oldest player in the mega auction at the age of 42 years, Imran Tahir has been a champion leg spinner over the years. He has taken 450 T20 wickets at a brilliant economy rate of 6.93. He was with Team Chennai for the last few seasons but went unsold in this auction. His base price was ₹2 crore.

3) Eoin Morgan

Eoin Morgan is one of the most shocking names who got unsold in the mega auction. England's most successful white-ball captain led Kolkata for two seasons and took them to the final in the 2021 edition. His poor show with the bat in recent times may have been a big factor in this. Morgan’s base price was ₹1.5 crore.

4) Shakib Al Hasan

He may be a champion all-rounder and arguably the greatest cricketer Bangladesh has ever produced, but Shakib has failed to dominate in the Indian T20 League like at the international level. He has taken 63 wickets and scored 793 runs in 71 matches. His base price was ₹2 crore.

5) Amit Mishra

If Raina is a T20 legend with the bat, Amit Mishra is a legend with the ball. He has taken a boatload of wickets in the Indian T20 League. He is the third-highest wicket taker in the league with 166 wickets at an average of 23.97. He has played for Delhi for most of his years but his 39 years of age might be a reason why he does not feature in any teams' plans.
