5 Best Batters in the Indian T20 League 2022

The action-packed Indian T20 League season is in full swing. For the first time since 2011, there are 10 teams taking part, with 74 group matches to be played before the play-offs. Given that each team has played at least 10 matches, it’s a good time to look at which batters have made the greatest impact in the tournament so far. Remember we’re not listing the best batters in the game, but those who have most caught the eye in the 2022 season. It’s not just the number of runs they have scored that has been considered. Whether you’re picking a fantasy dream team or a side to win a match on the field, strike rate – the speed at which a batter scores his runs – is a huge factor in T20 cricket. Our picks are those who have not just made runs, but made them fast.

1. J. Buttler (Rajasthan Team): 618 runs in 11 matches

Rajasthan have looked a formidable side this season with a power-packed batting unit and a skillful bowling unit. They have won 7 of the 11 matches played and look set to go into the play-offs. J. Buttler is one of the key batters responsible for the good cricket the team has played in the 2022 edition. He has made his runs at a strike rate of 152.21 and has scored 3 half centuries and 3 centuries. He has also hit the most number of boundaries and sixes this season.

2. KL Rahul (Lucknow team): 451 runs in 11 matches

KL Rahul has been the most consistent run scorer in the Indian T20 League for the last 5 years. He is easily a 500-run bank for the whole season, regardless of whichever team he plays for. Captaining and opening the batting for the new franchise, Lucknow, he has scored 2 centuries and 2 half centuries, and his runs have come at a strike rate of 145.01.

3. D. Warner (Delhi team): 375 runs in 9 matches

After the controversial sacking from Hyderabad captaincy and eventually the team, D. Warner has found a home with his old franchise, Delhi, for the 2022 edition. He missed the opening two fixtures for Delhi, in which the team struggled to make big runs. Despite that, he is the team's highest run scorer this season, with 4 half centuries and a strike rate of 156.9. Whenever Warner has played a big knock, Delhi have been victorious.

4. H. Pandya (Gujarat team): 333 runs in 10 matches

Hardik went to the newly formed Gujarat team in the mega auction after playing for Mumbai since 2015. Seen as Indian cricket’s next great all-rounder, he has struggled with fitness issues for the past few years and has lost his place in the Indian team. Now as captain of Gujarat, he seems to have found the groove that most cricket watchers knew he had. He has made 3 half centuries and has a strike rate of 134.27. H. Pandya is batting at No. 3 and No. 4 this season and can anchor an innings without slowing it down.

5. L. Livingstone (Punjab team): 315 runs in 11 matches

Those who follow other T20 leagues around the world had an idea of how good L. Livingstone was but this is the first time the Indian T20 League has witnessed his all-round quality. Livingstone hasn’t just scored 3 half centuries, including a stunning display against Chennai that won him the Player of the Match, but his strike rate of 184.21 is the highest of anyone with more than 300 runs. For now, he looks like an inspired signing.
